Hello everyone. I am Beverley. This looks a really useful and friendly site. I have been learning Greek for a number of years and am passionate about Greece. I would like to improve my speaking as don't get much chance to practice other than when I am in Greece - Perhaps via skype? I am planning to move to Greece permanently in a few years and want to master the language before then. We have just started to build a house there and expect lots of laughs and tears along the way. I would love to hear from anyone, to exchange tips, resources, and to help each other master this, sometimes, frustrating but beautiful language.
I am looking forward to being part of this forum.

I hope you will find this site useful. The option to speak, however, is something of a luxury. You'll pick it up very quickly if you were in Greece permanently, I suspect. The nearest I get is to try to improve my understanding of spoken Greek by seeking to make sense of the Sky News. See this link:

Thanks for the link. I like to watch Greek Movies - generally get the overall gist of the plot but don't understand all the dialogues. I find watching news/sport etc with greek subtitles on the tv in Greece much easier to understand.

Διαρκώς είναι το ίδιο πρόβλημα.

Μαθαίνουμε τις δεύτερες γλώσσες μας με τα μάτια, όχι με τα αύτια, κι, γι' αυτό, είναι πιο δύσκολο να μιλήσουμε και να καταλάβουμε όταν ένας Έλληνας μας λέει κάτι από να διαβάσουμε ή γράψουμε.

Λοιπόν, με την εξάσκηση θα βρούμε τελειότητα!!!

I was watching a series LOLA (unfortunately that is no longer uploaded).
After months of listening to radio, and a bit of tv watching--LOLA was something I could actually understand a bit of what was going on
and recognizing quite a few words.
